Ready or Not… Back-to-School Is Here!

Your August Home Reset Guide

Confession time…my kitchen table is the unofficial catch-all in our house. 😂

Throughout the week, it’s where the mail lands, receipts pile up, packages waiting to be returned get tossed, and somehow anything that doesn’t have a permanent home seems to end up there. By the weekend, it’s usually begging for a reset.

The funny thing is, every time I take ten minutes to clear it off, my whole house instantly feels calmer.

That’s one of the reasons I love August.

There’s something about this time of year that feels like a fresh start. Whether you’re sending kids back to school, settling back into work routines after summer, or simply craving a little more organization, August is the perfect time to hit the reset button.

The good news? You don’t have to organize your entire house in one weekend. A few intentional changes can make a big difference.

Let’s get started.

🏡 Home

Create a Drop Zone

Busy mornings are much smoother when everything has a place.

Whether it’s a bench by the front door, hooks in the mudroom, or a basket for keys and sunglasses, creating one designated “drop zone” helps keep everyday clutter from spreading throughout the house.

Reset Your Pantry

Take twenty minutes to toss expired items, group similar foods together, and create an easy-to-grab snack section.

Packing lunches and planning weeknight dinners becomes much easier when you know exactly what you have.

Declutter One Space

Instead of trying to organize your entire home, choose one area that causes the most daily frustration.

Maybe it’s the junk drawer.

Maybe it’s the laundry room.

Or maybe…it’s your kitchen table. 😉

One completed project always feels better than ten unfinished ones.

📅 Life

Create a Family Command Center

Whether you prefer a paper planner, a wall calendar, or a shared digital calendar, having one place for appointments, school events, sports, birthdays, and reminders can make busy weeks feel much more manageable.

Organize Important Papers

School forms, medical information, insurance papers, warranties, and schedules all seem to pile up this time of year.

Create one folder—digital or paper—where everything important lives. You’ll thank yourself the next time you need to find something quickly.

Plan a Few Easy Weeknight Meals

As schedules fill up, deciding what’s for dinner every night can become one more thing on an already busy list.

Choose four or five simple meals your family enjoys and keep those ingredients on hand. Removing just one daily decision can make the entire week run a little smoother.

❤️ You

Refresh One Routine

Summer schedules are meant to be a little more relaxed, but August is a great time to settle back into habits that make your days easier.

Maybe it’s meal planning.

Maybe it’s taking a morning walk.

Maybe it’s finally drinking enough water.

Pick one routine that helps you feel your best and start there.

Give Yourself a Fresh Start

If your to-do list feels overwhelming, remember that you don’t have to do everything today.

Choose one project you’d love to finish before Labor Day and celebrate the progress you make along the way.

💕 Haley’s Tip

Don’t try to organize your entire house this weekend. Choose one space that’s been bothering you the most and start there. Small wins build momentum, and before you know it, those little projects add up to a home that feels calmer and easier to enjoy.
